Our story
Back in 2016, our founder, Jacob Nielsen, was a business student watching too many of his peers struggle with stress, anxiety, and the overwhelming feeling of not being good enough. One common thread stood out—those who dropped out often weren’t part of a study group.
Without someone to study, share ideas, or navigate the ups and downs of student life with, they felt isolated. Seeing how much this impacted their mental health and well-being, Jacob knew something had to change.
Armed with a lot of optimism, Jacob pitched an idea to the Dean: assign every student to a study group at the start of the academic year. The Dean loved the concept but explained that with thousands of students enrolling, it was just too complex to manage manually. So the meeting took a 180 turn, with the Dean asking Jacob to figure something out - and he never should've said that!
Jacob partnered with IT students, study counselors, and group-creation experts to build a solution: a simple yet powerful system that uses a questionnaire and algorithm to form balanced, dynamic study groups in minutes. After a successful pilot at Aarhus University, the word spread, and educators from across the country reached out with the same challenges.
That’s how Unihelper was born.
Since then, we’ve helped create study groups for over 25,000 students across three continents, improving student well-being and helping reduce dropout rates.
It’s been an exciting journey, with plenty of ups and downs, but one thing has remained constant: our mission to ensure every student feels connected and supported from day one.
